01 / Platform migration

Move the commerce engine without losing the shopping logic.

A platform migration is not just product export/import. It is also a website redesign problem: catalog structure, variants, imagery, reviews, payments, shipping, domains and the customer journey all have to survive the move.

BEFORE / HOSTED PLATFORM

Shopify storefront

The existing store provided the starting catalog and customer-facing commerce experience, but recurring platform costs and ownership of the stack were part of the migration decision.

02 / Commerce operating system

The storefront is more than the product grid.

The project touched the layers that decide whether shoppers can browse, choose, trust, pay and return without the platform getting in the way.

SHOPPING UX

Wishlist & selection

Wishlist capability and cleaner product interactions support customers who compare products before checkout.

  • Wishlist
  • Variant selection
  • Catalog browsing

  • International shopping
SECURITY

Cloudflare + store protection

Cloudflare controls and WordPress security were tuned around ecommerce functions so protections did not break normal cart behaviour, creating a stronger base for ongoing website maintenance and store support.

  • CDN/security
  • Rate-limit tuning
  • Checkout continuity
03 / Shopping journey

Product discovery has to survive every technical change underneath it.

The rebuild only works if shoppers can continue moving naturally from discovery to product choice, checkout and post-purchase confidence.

01 / DISCOVER

Browse

Collections, categories, new arrivals and sale merchandising create multiple ways into the catalog.

02 / CHOOSE

Select

Product imagery, size/colour options, price, reviews and wishlist features support comparison and selection.

03 / BUY

Checkout

Currency, payment options, shipping information and secure checkout reduce friction at the purchase stage.

04 / RETURN

Support

Order information, returns guidance, FAQ content and customer support continue after checkout.

04 / Domain transition

The storefront identity moved with the platform.

The ecommerce project also included the final transition from the Canadian domain to the `.com` brand domain, keeping the public storefront consolidated under Gorgeous Feather.

The domain move is part of the commerce architecture: redirects, canonical identity and customer-facing links need to agree on which storefront is primary. Those decisions also help protect important SEO signals during a domain transition.
05 / Live-store proof

The proof is the shopping system customers can use now.

This case should show the functioning commerce experience rather than inventing revenue claims we do not need to make.

WHAT THE LIVE STORE DEMONSTRATES

Product discovery, variants, reviews and checkout now live inside one WooCommerce storefront.

The current store presents collections and products with sale pricing, product options, customer reviews, CAD/USD selection and customer-support information.

  • Active product/category catalog
  • Products with selectable variants
  • Published product reviews
  • CAD and USD selection
  • Shipping, returns and FAQ support
06 / Migration outcome

More control moved into the storefront without breaking the shopping journey.

The migration brought catalog, product options, reviews, payments, currency, security and domain ownership into a WooCommerce-centered operating model.

CASE STUDY TAKEAWAY

The platform changed, but the customer still needed one continuous path from product discovery to checkout.

The rebuilt store keeps shopping functions connected while giving the business more control over design, integrations, hosting and future ecommerce changes. It also demonstrates how ecommerce work can combine web design, SEO and ongoing website support rather than treating the storefront as an isolated build.

07 / E-commerce migration FAQ

Questions about moving an online store to WooCommerce.

Why would an online store migrate from Shopify to WooCommerce?

A business may want more control over hosting, design, integrations and operating costs. The right choice depends on the store’s catalog, internal resources and the complexity of the ecommerce stack rather than one platform being universally better.

What needs to be preserved during a Shopify-to-WooCommerce migration?

Products, variants, images, reviews, customer-facing URLs, payment and shipping logic, SEO signals and the shopping journey all need review. A successful migration is more than importing a product spreadsheet.

Can WooCommerce support product colour and size variations?

Yes. The Gorgeous Feather implementation uses WooCommerce variations with product selection features such as sizes, colour choices and variation imagery.

Can customer reviews be moved to a new ecommerce platform?

Often, yes, depending on the source platform and review system. In this project, existing review content was migrated into the WooCommerce storefront so product proof did not need to restart from zero.

How do payments and multiple currencies fit into a WooCommerce migration?

They need to be planned as part of the new commerce architecture. The live Gorgeous Feather store supports secure checkout and customer currency selection for CAD and USD.

What happens to the old domain when an ecommerce brand moves to a new domain?

The old domain should be handled carefully with redirects and consistent canonical signals so customers and search engines understand which storefront is now primary.
